I began working as a teacher at the college in King's Lynn known locally as 'The Tec'. I spent 11 happy years teaching chemistry there before I began to work full-time in 'Bayes' -  the well known record shop in the town which I owned along with my wife Janet.

Writing and publishing my books came about more by accident than design, after a friend lent me some wonderful photographs of the old yards in King's Lynn taken in the 1930s. I was quite sure there would be many other people with local connections, who shared my interest and love for the town and it's history, so I started to put together my first book

and that was how it all began....

Tricky Sam Nanton

I chose the name ‘Tricky Sam’ Publishing’ when I registered to obtain my ISBN numbers (the ones the retailer will scan when a book is sold). The quirky name 'Tricky Sam Publishing' originated  from Joe 'Tricky Sam' Nanton, a trombonist who played with my all time favourite band, Duke Ellington & his Orchestra.
